Welcome to my humble collection of trailers to present you some films worth to see and which happens to be my personal favourites. I would like to put it straight, that I´m NOT selling these DVDs. To purchase one of the DVDs contact your local fly fishing shop or look them up on the internet. I just share knowlegde - so enjoy!
THE COMPLEAT ANGLER (2006)
Two DVDs contain 10 chapters and each of them brings the famous book "
The Compleat Angler" written by Izaak Walton to life. Fly fishers are going to see lovely episodes about trout, grayling and salmon, but the other episodes featuring roach, barble, pike, eel, carp, perch etc. are by far not less entertaining. Very British, indeed, this DVD set "will enthral and seduce fishermen and non fishermen alike."
Geoffrey Palmer and Rea Borras explore for you the world of Izaak Walton and therefore visit his favourite haunts and try 350 year old methods. It´s funny and educating at the same time!
ESSENTAL SKILLS with OLIVER EDWARDS (2001)
1. Fishing dry fly on a chalk stream
2. Mayfly time on a chalk stream
Join Oliver Edwards at the waterside and benchside, when he goes fishing dry flies on a chalk stream. Not only does he present to you his paradun and mohican mayfly (green drake / Ephemera danica) patterns, he also shows you how to fish them.
Lots of knowledge and insight and just a pleasure to see. After watching the DVD one can hardly decide what to do next: go fishing or start tying these great fly patterns...
FAULTS & FIXES with MEL KRIEGER (2005)
Mel Krieger is for sure one of the outstanding fly casting instructors of our time. Unfortunately, when you are not living in America chances are small to see him in person, but there is no need for disappointment. This DVD is a great alternative. Casting faults are shown by Mel´s "mate" Joe Schmakapop (baseball cap!) and Mel (bucket hat!) is going to fix the problems. From basic fly casting to spey casting - this DVD is meant for the serious fly caster.
This instructional film is like no other, because it is fun to watch and very informative.
THE LOST WORLD OF MR. HARDY (2008)
Fly fishing and the family name Hardy are inseperable connected. There is probably no fly fisher not familiar with tackle made by the House of Hardy. This DVD tells the story of Hardy brothers, who devoted their eneregy, creativity - combined with their love for fishing - to develop the
finest reels and rods availabe.
You will get first hand information from company´y directors, craftsmen, engineers and employees. Watch old scenes from Hardy´s shop in London or join the Hardy´s at the waterside. This film is a tribute to Hardy tackle manufacturing. A success story which probably has come to an end - at least the way we know it...
NEW ZEALAND TROPHY WATERS-SERIES (2005)
Kia ora, bugger! This DVD series takes you to Aotearoa or better known as New Zealand. This country is famous for its sheep, rugby, nature, more sheep, flightless birds, Footrot Flats and trout waters.
In several episodes you will see why the kiwi rivers are indeed trophy waters. Fly patterns are presented to you and you will learn about down-to-earth attitude towards fly fishing in one of the greatest places on earth. WARNING! Watching these films may cause spontaneous ticket buying for the the next flight heading to the southern hemisphere!
ESSENTAL SKILLS with OLIVER EDWARDS (2001)
Big Dry Flies for Fast Water
Oliver Edwards is back and not only shows you how to tie the famous fly, invented by Hans van Klinken, the Klinkhamer or Klinkhåmer, he also give you proof why this pattern is such a success.
Additionally he presents the Roman Moser´s balloon caddis and his own taped wing caddis. You also get a brief introduction to Marc Petitjean´s "Magic Tool" (dubbing clamps).
If this DVD doesn´t make you start tying flies - well, you are hopeless...
RED GOLD - an environmental documentary (2008)
A portrait of a unique way of life that won´t survive if the salmon don´t return as a consequence of mining plans in Alaska
(DVD also includes a well made booklet!)
In 2008 I read for the first time about ”Red Gold“ - the sockeye salmon of Alaska, when I visited
patagonia´s Fly Fishing: From the Field reports. A click later I saw a trailer, which gave an first impression of how great this movie must be. Indeed, it´s one of the best documentaries I have ever seen: stunning, breathtaking, amazing, absorbing... Winner of many prizes, it left a mark and even though I live here in Germany it made me wonder what I could do to help those people whose live is closely connected to salmon.
