Brown trout Bachforelle Salmo trutta fario

“The trout torment him with their wavering outlines. He sees the elliptical underwater silver of trout rooting in the gravel, big browns lying like corpses on their shadows, nymph-feeding rainbows bulging the water into hilly landscapes, fly takers sucking holes in the fragile tissue of the surface film, leaping brookies trying for flying morsels on the wing like cats after sparrows. He catches nothing [...]. “

Annie Proulx

The Wer-Trout (from Heart songs and other stories)

Here I have listed several external links that have a certain relevance to white thymallus. And again: white thymallus is not responsible for their content!
"My" fly fishing club. About the same time I have started with fly fishing I also joined Fario e.V. and really enjoy being a member.
Fliegenfischen (Fly fishing) is the leading magazine in Germany. Actually by chance I wrote my first article for them and several others have followed since. I did learn (and still do) a great big deal from one of the finest fly fisherman I know: Michael Werner, who ´s chief editor in charge.
It meant a lot to me to have met the master of fly casting: Mel Krieger. Not only is he a fine casting instructor, he is also a wonderful personality and over a glass of whisky I did enjoy listening to his stories and anecdotes. Find out more about Mel´s schools, travels, books & dvds.
Thanks to his fondness for the grayling Reg Righyni came up with the idea of a grayling society. This happened more than thirty years ago and the society was officially formed in 1977. From the beginning an international society, its aims are to gather and to disseminate knowledge of the thymalidae and to protect the grayling´s environment and thus the fish itself.
In close cooperation with the Grayling Society the book "The Complete Book of the Grayling" was written by Ronald Broughton (1st edition: Grayling, the Fourth Game Fish).
The Grayling Society publishes his own members magazine and additional publications.
The sad truth is, that Mel Krieger died 7th of October 2008 - several weeks after his 80th birthday (he was born 28.08.1928). Even though he has been very ill for a while, it hurts to face reality. I´m glad to hear that his illness did not cause pain and he passed away peacefully. I thank him for sharing his wisdom of fly fishing with so many. Not only as a fly fisherman Mel was a great and friendly person and will be missed. Wherever you are Mel: fish on, mate!
It happens not very often that I´m very fond of a specific brand, but since my working days in an outdoor shop I stayed loyal to patagonia. Not only because this company creates great clothing, but the people of patagonia care for our environment (Since 1985, patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.). On patagonia´s website you will also find many intereseting stuff like photographs, stories or even movies about fly fishing.

I´m well aware that this is a trout quote, but Proulx´s writing is just awesome!

If you have seen Red Gold you already know, that Bristol Bay needs protection. Take action and visit a special website from Trout Unlimited: www.savebristolbay.org. It is not only about salmon, it is about a whole ecosystem (including Arctic grayling)!
