Welcome to the webpages of white thymallus: gallery and information.

This site is thought to be a homage to one of the most beautiful fresh-water fish on this planet: the grayling (Thymallus thymallus). At the same time, being an online-gallery, this site honours the art of fly fishing in all his facets.

It is my wish to present in my photographs the artistry and aesthetics of fly fishing. Both fly fishing and photography can only be realised depending largely on skill and a certain amount of love for the subject.

This shall also be demonstrated in the choice of the motifs. As with a japanese painting, many images have already been developed in my mind and need ”only“ to be fixed on film... This is the ultimate challenge to make an idea visible.

To accomplish this aim I am not willing to use digital manipulations. To keep the authenticity is a question of honesty. I am totally convinced that viewers of my photographs will highly value this personal code of honour and rather like to see real images than created illusory worlds.

With my sincere thanks

„A knight´s banner of a fin. Waving tartan red in the stream, and a chain mail coat of iridescent greens and purples make the grayling our most beautiful game fish."

Finally - my first book has been published! Biologie des Fliegenfischens - Zusammenhänge verstehen als Weg zum Erfolg ("Biology of Flyfishing") is a summary of the recent knowledge of salmonid biology, personal experience and personal views. In it you will find everything the serious fly fisher needs to know and a bit of myth busting is also in it!

I´m quite proud of the book, because it took me about two and a half years to do all the research, photography and writing.

At present only in German available, me and the publisher have already discussed an English version of this book. I´ll keep you updated.
